VERDICT

Overall, we have to say that Numark Red Wave headphones represent a very good deal that can easily compete with much more expensive headphones like the ATH-M40 and M50.

The only real problem is their fragile and slightly uncomfortable construction. However, this issue is largely subjective and we are sure that many users won’t notice any problems at all.

Numark Red Wave Over-Ear Headphones were designed with professional DJ use in mind. They feature an eye-catching looks and set of features that should grab the attention of audio professionals and casual listeners alike.

Design and build

One thing is absolutely certain – Numark doesn’t strive for a subtle design. These headphones are very flashy and are sure to attract the attention of people around you. Red Ware headphones are designed specifically for the professional DJ use and feature large 50mm neodymium drivers that ear fitted inside ear cups with pads made out of breathable protein-leather. This means that you can comfortably wear them for a very long period without any sweating or painful sensation caused by the excessive clamping force.

The Numark Red Waves come with an extra-long cable that is slightly thicker that what you will normally see on other headphones. The cable is ended with a bayonet clip to protect from accidental cable detachment. The adjustable metal band seems solid enough and ear cups can rotate in all directions, which is essential for professional use.

The only thing we can complain about is the quality of plastic materials. The plastic seems to be of a lesser quality that what we are used to and depending on how you hold the headphones, you can hear cracking as the material gives in under the pressure of your fingers. The included carrying case should offer enough protection during transportation, but it would still be great to see a higher build quality, even if it would mean slightly higher production cost.

Sound quality

Most DJ headphones aim at very bass heavy sound that may seem to be exciting but often lacks detail and precise articulation. Numark Red Wave Professional Over-Ear DJ Headphones avoided making the same mistake as the majority of their competition and we can say that Red Wave headphones offer one of the most refined sounds in the category.

The bass extends very deep and has a good amount of energy behind it, mids are crisp and clear, and highs are delivered with a fantastic accuracy and precision. The overall listening experience is further enhanced by a good amount of passive noise isolation.

What is in the box?

Numark Red Wave Professional Over-Ear DJ Headphones come with a quick start guide, 1/8″ to 1/4″ adapter, carrying case, and 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. That’s pretty standard stuff with the warranty being a nice bonus.
